LA JOLLA, Calif. — Both UC San Diego men's and women's swimming teams have been recognized as spring CSCAA Scholar All-America teams, as announced by the CSCAA Wednesday. The Tritons are part of 714 teams from 481 institutions across all levels of collegiate competition. Teams must achieve a GPA of 3.00 or higher to earn Scholar All-America recognition. On the women's side the Tritons boast a 3.66. On the men's, a 3.25.
"This recognition celebrates the remarkable commitment these student-athletes make to excellence both in the classroom and in competition," said CSCAA Executive Director Samantha Barany. "The 714 teams honored this spring represent the very best of collegiate swimming and diving, demonstrating that academic success and athletic achievement go hand in hand. We congratulate every student-athlete, coach, and institution recognized."
The CSCAA Individual Scholar All-America Team was announced Thursday morning, with six Tritons earning recognition. Three UC San Diego scholar-athletes were named first team, three were named second team. To qualify for recognition, scholar-athletes must have earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher and participated in their national championship. Second-team selections must have also earned a 3.5 GPA or higher and met an NIC "A" time standard in Division I or an NCAA "B" qualifying standard for the national championship.

Asia Kozan were recognized as first-team scholar-athletes.
Sophia Bell,
Luigi Franco, and
William Seymour were honored with second-team accolades.
Founded in 1922, the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) is the nation's first organization of college coaches. The mission of the CSCAA is to advance the sport of swimming and diving with coaches at the epicenter of leadership, advocacy, and professional development.
