LA JOLLA, Calif. – The UC San Diego swim and dive teams revealed their 2022-23 competition schedule on Monday afternoon.
Â
The Tritons are entering their second year of NCAA Division I competition after UC San Diego was elevated to DI in 2020. The Tritons will return to five invitationals that they competed at in 2020-21. With most competitions happening away from La Jolla, the Tritons will make the rounds in Southern California stopping at USC, Cal, UCLA, Pepperdine, and the University of San Diego. At Canyonview Aquatic Center for six competitions, UC San Diego will host the likes of Wisconsin, UCLA, and Cal.
Â
Kicking off their season on the road, the Tritons return to the USC Invitational on Oct. 15 and 16 in Los Angeles. The Triton women will return to Cal on Nov. 4 with a dual meet following the next day at Pepperdine University. Pepperdine will host the Tritons and the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos on Nov. 5. UC San Diego will continue on the road to the Trailblazer Invitational in St. George, Utah followed by the 2022 Toyota U.S. Open. The Open will take place for four days from Nov. 30 to Dec. 3.
Â
The Tritons will have most of December to recoup and prepare to host the Wisconsin Badgers at Canyonview Aquatic Center on Dec. 31. The lone MPSF Conference competition will take place at CSU Bakersfield when the Tritons travel there on Jan. 2. The squads will then have UCLA and USC back-to-back with the Bruins at home and the Trojans hosting.
Â
The Triton men will then host Cal on Jan. 20 before the Triton Invitational on Jan. 21. The Tritons will wrap up their regular season with a home competition against Cal Baptist and a road competition across town at the University of San Diego.
Â
The season will wrap at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation conference championships from Feb. 15 to 17. The Triton women will be defending their title as the returning champs.
Â
Since UC San Diego is still in process of transitioning completely to DI, the squads are unable to compete in the NCAA postseason. However, the Tritons are eligible to compete at the CSCAA National Invitational Championships from Mar. 9 to 11.
