Spectators Not Permitted at Home Events Through Jan. 30

UC San Diego is extending remote instruction through Jan. 30 due to rise in COVID cases

LA JOLLA, Calif. –  As the nation continues to experience a considerable spike in new COVID-19 cases, largely due to the omicron variant, UC San Diego has extended its mandatory remote instruction period and its restriction on in-person gatherings on campus.

This includes an extension of the policy to prohibit spectators from attending home athletic events on the UC San Diego campus through January 30.  Triton athletic competitions will proceed as scheduled, but all indoor and outdoor events will be conducted without spectators in attendance.

This affects UC San Diego home events in the sports of men's and women's basketball, men's volleyball, fencing, men's and women's tennis and swimming.

All home events for men's and women's basketball and men's volleyball will continue to be streamed live on ESPN+, as scheduled.  Sunday's home swim competition against Minnesota will feature a live stream on UCSDTritons.com.

Fans who purchased single game tickets to events during this time period will automatically receive a refund, which will be reflected in their Paciolan account through the Triton Box Office.  Season ticket holders for men's and women's basketball will be refunded the prorated amount for events affected upon the conclusion of the season.

For status of competitions taking place away from the UC San Diego campus, please visit the official athletic website for the Tritons' opposing team.  Links are typically available by clicking the team name on the schedules available on UCSDTritons.com.

Public health orders across the nation are encouraging people to stay home as much as possible. If you need to go out, wear a N-95 or KN-95 mask at all times. Change your mask at least every five days and whenever soiled or wet.

Current vaccines combined with a booster dose help protect against severe illness, hospitalization and death due to infection with the omicron variant. Those eligible are advised to obtain a booster shot as soon as possible and, for those on campus, before Jan. 31 to remain compliant with the UC COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate.

To protect yourself during this time, UC San Diego officials urge everyone eligible to:  For more information and regular updates regarding attendance at UC San Diego athletic events, please click here
