LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's volleyball team announced its 2022 season schedule Friday.
Ranked 10th in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Preseason National Poll, the Tritons are slated to play 26 regular season matches. RIMAC Arena in La Jolla will host 13 contests. UC San Diego will play 10 Big West Conference matches with sixth of those inside RIMAC Arena.
The season gets underway Jan. 6-8 at UC Santa Barbara's Asics Invitational. UC San Diego will take on USC, No. 2 UCLA, and Concordia. All three opponents are out of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF).
The Tritons then open their home schedule with three-straight matches in La Jolla including Harvard (Jan. 14), Stanford (Jan. 15), and No. 9 Grand Canyon (Jan. 21). Please note that due to COVID protocols, spectators are not allowed at UC San Diego home events through Jan. 17, which includes the Harvard and Stanford contests.
Other non-conference home matches include Concordia (Feb. 4), UCLA (Feb. 9), UC Santa Cruz (2/18), and Central State (2/19).
Notable non-conference matches on the road include No. 15 NJIT (1/28) and a pair of tilts at No. 6 BYU (Feb. 11 and Feb. 12).
UC San Diego plays its first Big West Conference match on Feb. 5 when it visits 11th-ranked UC Santa Barbara. The Gauchos are the reigning Big West Tournament champions.
Hawaii, the 2021 national champion and this season's top-ranked team, comes to RIMAC Arena for a pair of conference matches on March 2 and March 4. Last season, UC San Diego took down the undefeated and No. 1-ranked Rainbow Warriors in a thrilling, five-set Big West Tournament semifinal to advance to the title match.
The remaining home Big West schedule includes No. 12 UC Irvine (March 25), CSUN (March 31), No. 4 Long Beach State (April 9), and UC Santa Barbara (April 15).
The 2022 Big West Tournament returns to the Islands April 21-23. Hawaii will host the championship at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.
The NCAA National Collegiate Men's Volleyball Championship is slated for May 5-7 at Pauley Pavilion on the campus of UCLA.

The 2022 campaign will be UC San Diego's fifth as a member of the Big West Conference.
