Meyer and Fitzgerald Earn Big West Accolades

IRVINE, Calif. – Two UC San Diego scholar-athletes were honored by the Big West when the conference's women's soccer awards were announced on Wednesday afternoon. Junior back Katelyn Meyer was named All-Big West Honorable mention while goalkeeper Keara Fitzgerald was named to the All-Freshman Team.

A native of Campbell, Meyer started all 17 matches for the Tritons in 2021. She was one of two UC San Diego players (along with captain Delaney Whittet) to play all 1589 minutes of the season. She recorded her first career assist on the game-winning goal vs. CSUN on Oct. 3.

After missing the team's first three matches due to injury, Fitzgerald played the entirety of the remaining UC San Diego schedule in net – nearly 1300 minutes in total. The Port Hueneme native compiled a 5-8-1 record with a .713 save percentage and a 1.74 goals against average. Fitzgerald posted a clean sheet in the program's first ever Big West win – a one-nil triumph at UC Irvine on Sept. 26.

The Tritons completed their first Division I season with a record of 5-10-2 overall and a 3-5-1mark in Big West play.
