'EWA BEACH, Hawaii - The UC San Diego men's golf team is tied for 14th following Monday's first two rounds of the Hoakalei Country Club Invitational.
The University of Hawai'i is hosting the two-day, 54-hole tournament at Hoakalei Country Club on the island of Oahu.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UC San Diego struggled in the opening round, totaling a 312 on the par-72, 7,444-yard course. However, the Tritons improved by 11 strokes in the afternoon round, carding a 301 for a total of 613 on the day, 37-over par.
Freshman
Francis Catalano is the top Triton thus far, sitting in a tie for 51st. He is 8-over par after shooting rounds of 77 and 75 to log a 152.
Senior
Ryan Vaughan (81-72--153, +9) is tied for 58th, redshirt freshman
Davis McDowell (74-82--156, +12) is tied for 68th, sophomore
Jerry Wu (81-76--157, +13), is tied for 71st, and junior
Elliot Bunyaviroch (80-78--158, +14) is tied for 76th.
Vaughan's second-round 72 was the Tritons' best of the day. He moved up 17 spots on the leader board after the even-par round.
The top three teams in the standings are the only squads under par heading into Tuesday's final round. Louisiana owns first place with a 9-under 567. Loyola Marymount is second with a 7-under 569, and the University of San Diego is third with a 1-under 575.
The individual leader is LMU's Tony Hendricks. He shot rounds of 65 and 70 and is 9-under with a 135. His 65 was the low round of the day.
In the 79-golfer field, 13 are under par following Monday's play.
