LA JOLLA, Calif. – A new era is here! UC San Diego has begun its transition to NCAA Division I and the Big West Conference. As part of the move to Division I, UCSDtritons.com introduces our fans to the Big West and the other 10 members - our new conference foes.

Did You Know? In the fall of 2018, Long Beach State was the No. 8 most-applied to university in the nation…Beach men's volleyball won back-to-back national championships in 2018 and 2019.
 
Notable Alumni: Golfer Mark O'Meara, beach volleyball standout Misty May-Treanor, and Major Leaguers Jered Weaver, Troy Tulowitzki and Evan Longoria all played collegiately for the Beach.
 
Triton Connections: UC San Diego men's volleyball volunteer assistant coach Paul Lotman played for Long Beach State from 2005-08, helping the Beach reach the national semifinals his senior year…Tritons' Assistant AD, Video Production Steven Calista is a Long Beach alum (class of 2014), and later oversaw that department's video production efforts under the Beach Vision banner.

After two decades as one of the most successful programs in NCAA Division II, the UC San Diego intercollegiate athletics program begins a new era in 2020 as a member of the Big West Conference in NCAA Division I. The 23-sport Tritons earned 30 team and nearly 150 individual national championships during its time in Divisions II and III and helped guide more than 1,400 scholar-athletes to All-America honors. In addition, 83 Tritons have been named Academic All-Americans, while 37 have earned prestigious NCAA Post Graduate Scholarships.
