LA JOLLA, Calif. – The University of California San Diego track and field teams exhibited powerful performances at the San Diego Collegiate Challenge on March 7. It was the Tritons' ninth season in a row hosting the event.
The UC San Diego men came in second-place (162), three points off from a first-place US Naval Academy (165) and ahead of future Big West contender UC Santa Barbara (147). On the women's side, the Tritons turned in strong results as well, placing third with a point total of 108.5.
"Today's meet was strong across all the event areas," said Women's Head Coach
Darcy Ahner. "We really saw some heat with Navy and UC Santa Barbara. You always want to come out on top, but it was nice to see both the men's and the women's teams compete fearlessly against the Division I schools, even though we have a fairly young team. With eight provisional NCAA qualifiers after only two opportunities, we are excited to see how the season progresses."
