LA JOLLA, Calif. – The University of California San Diego softball team has climbed the poll once more, taking 13th in this week's edition of the 2019 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll. The poll was released on Wednesday morning and is voted on by 16 head coaches, with two representing each of the eight regions.
UC San Diego was ranked 23rd in the NFCA's preseason poll, rose to 17th in the first regular season poll, and now moves up four slots to 13th. The team holds a 13-2 record on the season, standing at 11-1 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action.
Since the previous poll, the Tritons added four wins to their total. UC San Diego swept Stanislaus State on the road, marking back-to-back conference sweeps for the Tritons, who had previously swept Cal State Monterey Bay.
UC San Diego's conference rivals Chico State and Cal State San Bernardino also moved in the current NFCA poll. Chico State (12-3, 10-2 CCAA), who was previously sixth, dropped to eighth. Cal State San Bernardino (7-0, 4-0 CCAA) gained a slot, improving from 21st to 20th.
The Tritons will look for continued success as they host Humboldt State for a pair of doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday. First pitch for Friday is slated for 1 p.m., while Saturday is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
