Chelsea Challacombe Sits in Second in Heptathlon After Day 1 of CCAA Championships

TURLOCK, Calif. - University of California San Diego sophomore Chelsea Challacombe sits in second place in the heptathlon after Day 1 of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships at Stanislaus State's Al Brenda Track at Warrior Stadium.

Challacombe began the day by taking third in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 15.12-seconds. She followed it up with a second-place effort in the high jump behind a leap of 5-feet, 3.25-inches (1.61-meters).

The Los Alamos, N.M., native concluded the day with a third-place performance in the shot put with a best throw of 34'8.5” (10.58), as well as a seventh-place finish in the 200 with a time of 26.68.

Heptathlon action resumes on Friday with the long jump beginning at 11 a.m.

In the men's hammer throw, Triton senior Joshua Makieve placed sixth overall with a best toss of 168'2” (51.27), while senior teammate Mason Falahat took eighth behind a throw of 161'1” (49.11). The UC San Diego men are third in the team competition thanks to the four points provided by the duo.

In addition to the heptathlon on Friday, Triton involvement in the field events will continue with the men's shot put final at 4 p.m., while track events start up with preliminaries of the women's 4x100 relay, also at 4 p.m.
