LA JOLLA, Calif. - The University of California San Diego track and field teams wrapped up their competition at the San Diego Collegiate Challenge at Triton Track & Field Stadium on the campus of UC San Diego on Saturday. The men's side took first place with 130 points, with Navy finishing second (126) and Long Beach State third (91). The women's side took third with 69 points, finishing behind Navy (134) and Long Beach State (95).

Junior Matt Bowen broke the meet record in the long jump with a 23'7.5" mark. He also won the triple jump, posting a distance of 48'8.25", an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.

Senior Meghan Fletcher won the 400-meter hurdles with a 1:01.42 time, an NCAA provisional qualifying time as well.

Mandy Che, fellow senior Selena Friedman, sophomore Claudia Cox and Fletcher ran a 3:56.99 time in the 4x400 relay, taking first place.

Senior Paul Doan won the 200 with a 21.70 time.

Sophomore Julian Romero took first in the 3000-meter run with an 8:54.48 time and junior Garrett Boulais finished second in 8:56.87.

Senior Luis Carson won the high jump with a 6'5" mark while freshman Evan Shimasaki took first in the pole vault with a 15'7" mark.

"We had a great team effort today on both sides in tough conditions," said UC San Diego men's head coach Tony Salerno after the Tritons' home opener under rainy skies. "We are really proud of how our people competed. The win on the men's side over Navy and Long Beach really shows the strength of our men's team this year."

The UC San Diego track and field teams return to action next Saturday, March 17, at the UC Irvine Spring Collegiate Classic.
