Three Tritons, Both Track and Field Teams Named USTFCCCA All-Academic

NEW ORLEANS - The University of California San Diego had three honorees, two men and one woman, on the 2017 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic teams for NCAA Division II. The announcement was made Friday.

Rising sophomore Chelsea Challacombe and recent graduates Tim Schmidt and Khalil Flemister earned the distinction. All three student-athletes earned the honor for the first time.

In total, there were 301 men and 471 women who were recognized. To qualify, an individual must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least a 3.25, and have achieved an automatic or provisional qualifying mark for the 2017 NCAA Championships.

Additionally, both the UC San Diego men's and women's teams were given All-Academic status after posting a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher. The Triton women produced a 3.20, with the men combining on a 3.06 mark. A total of 115 women's and 76 men's squads were honored by the USTFCCCA.

UCSD teams were rewarded for the seventh consecutive year, and the ninth time in the last 10 years.
