LA JOLLA, Calif. - The University of California San Diego men's and women's track and field teams concluded the two-day Triton Invitational Saturday at Triton Track & Field Stadium. Over 1,100 athletes, including Olympians, Olympic hopefuls and other elite athletes from around the world were on hand in La Jolla.

Day two was highlighted by the men's first-place finish in the 4x100 relay. The team of Andrew Dirks, Emmanuel Elijah, Justin Hunter and Paul Doan finished in 41.71. The women's 4x400 relay team of Jackie Chalmers, Marisa Padilla, Claudia Cox and Meghan Fletcher placed first with a winning time of 3:53.81. 

Senior Ella Verhees ran to an NCAA provisional mark in the 800 with a time of 2:12.88. She finished sixth-palce overall. Sophomore Natalie Caraway also hit an NCAA provisional mark in the triple jump with a distance of 38'6.75". 

"We had some great performances in nearly every event against some high level DI and elite competition today," said head coach Darcy Ahner. "This sets us up perfectly for the CCAA meet in two weeks".

On the track, Kristin Semancsin had UCSD's top finish, placing fourth overall in the 1500 (4:36.91). In the 110 hurdles, Nicholas Rack finished third (14.56). Junior Paul Doan ran to a sixth-place finish in the 100-meter dash (11.85) and fourth in the 200 (21.94). Freshman Claudia Cox placed third in the 400 hurdles (1:01.84) and Samuel Blake finished second overall with a time of 14:47.62 in the 5000. 

In the men's triple jump, senior Khalil Flemister hit a mark of 47'11.50", good for fourth overall.

UCSD is idle from competition next weekend before heading to the three-day California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships, hosted by Chico State, Thursday through Saturday, May 4-6.
