LA JOLLA, Calif. - The University of California San Diego men's and women's track and field team played host to the annual California Collegiate Invitational, Saturday at Triton Track and Field Stadium.
The UC San Diego men won the meet with a score of 235.50. The women placed second with 120.50 points behind San Diego State (157).
UCSD combined to win eight total events.
Junior Merin Arft highlighted the meet for UCSD with a school-record and NCAA provisional mark in the women's 3000 steeplechase. She finshed second overall with the fastest time in school history in 10:57.34.
Arik Nesbit and Khalil Flemister took first and second in the triple jump, respectively. Nesbit earned the top spot with a distance of 48'.25” while Flemister turned in a performance of 47'11.50”.
UCSD swept the men's and women's high jump. Senior Savanna Forry took first on the women's side with an NCAA provisional mark of 5'8”. Luis Carson posted the best mark on the men's side with a height of 6'6.50”.
Freshman Claudia Cox finished first in the 400 hurdles with a winning time and an NCAA provisional mark of 1:01.69.
Junior Paul Doan collected two first-place finishes on the day. He ran the fastest 100-meter sprint in 10.68 and grabbed the top spot in the 200-meter sprint in 21.80.
Also winning events on the track were sophomore Nicholas Rack in the 110 hurdles (14.66) and senior Jared Senese in the 400 run (48.43). Sophomore Joseph Benrubi won the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 9:28.54.
Next up, the Tritons will compete in the Pomona-Pitzer Invitaitonal Saturday, April 8.
