SAN DIEGO, Calif. — UC San Diego track and field delivered an impressive showing at the Aztec Invitational, hosted by San Diego State, totaling eight event victories while adding a school record, multiple top-10 marks, and new Big West qualifiers.
The Tritons dominated across event groups, highlighted by standout performances in the throws and sprints. UC San Diego also recorded one new school record, placed two marks into the program's all-time top 10, and added three new Big West qualifiers over the course of the meet.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tritons wasted no time making an impact, stringing together a series of event victories.
Zach Lewis led the way in the throws, capturing the discus title with a mark of 55.25m while setting a new school record. He also secured a second win in the shot put with a throw of 17.33m.
Bryan Chang added to the Tritons' success in the hammer throw, winning the event with a mark of 59.00m.
Feyi Olukanni delivered a dominant double on the women's side, taking first in both the discus (49.43m) and shot put (15.17m).
On the track,
Eden Enoru was an event winner in the 400 meters, crossing the line in 54.82. In the field,
Matthew Harber secured the pole vault title with a clearance of 4.82m, while
Sam Betz was the decathlon event winner with a total of 5,484 points.
Throughout the meet, UC San Diego continued to make its mark in the program record book.
Bella Di Silvestri placed third in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.88m, while Enoru's 400-meter time of 54.82 ranks second all-time in program history.
The Tritons also saw three athletes reach Big West qualifying standards.
Tyler Lange (hammer throw, 52.51m),
Logan Shojgreen (shot put, 13.04m), and
Sam Betz (decathlon, 5,484 points) each secured their spots with qualifying performances.
