MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - The No. 12 University of California San Diego men's tennis team was routed, 9-0, by No. 2 Barry Monday afternoon in Miami Shores, Fla.
The Tritons fall to 8-8 while the Buccaneers improve to 12-1 overall.
At the top spot in singles, #49 Eric Tseng was defeated by #2 Ahmed Triki with a score of 7-5, 6-3.
At No. 2, #34 Alexandre Miaule saw a similar fate, being downed by #26 Pierre Montrieul 7-6 (7-5), 6-2. The No. 3 slot saw Justin Zhang fall to #11 Carlos Gomez in three sets 6-3, 3-6, 10-2.
In the No. 4 spot, #46 Nico Dreer took a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 victory over Marc Isaia. One spot below, Fabian Pronnet took down Edvin Larsson 6-0, 6-3. Rounding out the singles competition was Vivien Versier with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Marius Ruh.
The No. 1 slot of the doubles competition saw Miaule and Sreeganesh Manoharan fall to the fourth-ranked duo of Triki and Montrieul, 8-3.
At No. 2, Larsson and Isaia were felled by #25 Gomez and Versier 8-4 while Dreer and Fernando Tous finished off Zhang and Tseng 8-1 at No. 3.
UCSD's trip does not get easier as it will face No. 1 West Florida on Wednesday, March 29 in Pensacola. The match is set to begin at 10 a.m.
