LOS ANGELES - The No. 15 UC San Diego women's tennis team took its third straight win with a 6-3 decision against Cal State L.A. on Saturday at CSULA Tennis Complex. The Tritons improve to 6-4 overall while the Golden Eagles drop to 2-4.
UCSD won two of three doubles matches before claiming four of six singles contests.
Nousha Nowamooz and Jasmine Hosseini came away with an 8-3 win over Victoria Vo and Elizaveta Sokolova, 8-3, at No. 3 doubles. The Tritons fell at the No. 2 slot as Sonia Landeros and Iris Raileanu defeated Nava Nowamooz and Shannon Theisen, 8-1. But UCSD took the lead going into singles as Kyra Scott and Britta Mosser, who are ranked 14th nationally, beat Nozomi Matsuoka and Alexandra Makashov in No. 1.
Scott extended her win streak at No. 1 singles to eight as she defeated Matsuoka, 6-4, 6-1. Hosseini was dominant in the No. 2 spot, taking a quick 6-1, 6-2 win against Sonia Landeros. At No. 3 singles, Mosser earned a tough fought 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 win against Iris Raileanu. Nousha Nowamooz took the final singles point for the Tritons by defeating Makashov, 6-3, 7-5, in the No. 5 spot.
The Tritons return Northview Courts Wednesday, March 4 to host Villanova at 2 p.m.
