NEW ORLEANS - UC San Diego had eight men's and 10 women's honorees on the 2014 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region Team for the NCAA Division II.
In total, there were 646 different male student-athletes who received the award, combining for a total of 905 awards. For the women, 619 different competitors earned 911 total honors. To be recognized with this award, student-athletes finished in the top five of their individual events, as well as finishing in the top three for relay events, all within their respective regions.
Three Tritons landed all-region recognition in two different events. Sophomore Carlos Bojorquez qualified in both the 800 and the 1500 in his first season in the program. Bojorquez ran a season-best 1:51.10 in the Sun Angel Classic for the 800 on April 12, while running another season-best NCAA provisional mark of 3:50.16 in the 1500 at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 18.
Redshirt freshman Dan Golubovic had an impressive first year, earning all-region honors in the pole vault and the decathlon. Golubovic reached a height of 15'11" in the pole vault at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational (4/12). He also won two decathlons during his first season competing in a Triton uniform. Golubovic won the decathlon with a score of 6720 at the California Invite in April, and later improved his score to set a Triton Track & Field Stadium record of 6898 points and take the top spot on the podium at his first CCAA Championships.
The third Triton to take home all-region honors in two separate events is senior thrower Eva Isaacs, in both the shot put and the discus. Isaacs threw season-best marks in the discus with a distance of 142'9" at the Triton Invitational (4/25) and the shot put with a distance of 41'7.25" at the CCAA Championships (5/3).
Junior All-American Nash Howe earned the only automatic provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Championships this year, securing his spot on the all-region team. Howe threw a career-best 229'3" in the javelin, also winning a CCAA championship for the second year in a row, throwing a distance of 225'4".
Four more runners on the men's side ranked in the top five in the region. Juniors Tanner Collins and Keith Rose received the honors for the 5000 and 200, respectively. Rose broke the UCSD school record for the second time this season in the 200, running a career best 21.30 at the CCAA Championships, earning him his first NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Collins also received a pro mark in the 5000 at the Mt. SAC Relays, running a time of 14:27.19. Freshmen Jared Senese and Markus Woods rounded out the all-region honorees for runners on the men's side. Senese earned the award for the 800, while Woods received the honor for the 400 hurdles. Both earned pro marks as well in their respective events.
Clint Rosser returned to the all-region team in the pole vault. The junior earned a provisional qualifying mark at the Sun Angel Classic, clearing a height of 15'9.25". He had a strong showing throughout the season, finishing fifth at the CCAA Championships.
Chantia Justice and Kristin Sato once again earned USTFCCCA All-Region recognition in the triple jump. Justice had a jump of 39'7.75" at the CCAA Championships on May 3rd and Sato had a jump of 39'3" at the Triton Invitational on April 26.
Kristen Daugherty had a high jump of 5'5" at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on April 12 and Savanna Forry had a high jump of 5'4.5" at the Aztec Invitational on March 29 to both qualify for USTFCCCA All-Region selection.
Megan Benham and Veronica Bradley both qualified for all-region in pole vault and the heptathlon, respectively. Benham had a 12'2" mark in the pole vault at the CCAA Championships on May 3, and Bradley totaled 4691 points at the CCAA Championships on May 2.
Lauren Irish earned all-region marks with a 1:01.40 time in 400 meter hurdles at the CCAA Championships on May 3. Both Sabrina Pimentel and Paige Hughes earned nods for the 800 meters and 10000, respectively. Pimentel had a time of 2:09.07 in the 800 meters at the Sun Angel Classic on April 12. Hughes had a time of 37:03.67 in 10000 meters at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 12.
