BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The UC San Diego women's basketball team fell to Seattle Pacific, 71-66, Friday on the first day of the West Region Crossover Classic hosted by Western Washington. The game was back and forth overall as the two teams combined for eight lead changes and 13 total ties.
In the first half, UCSD saw its biggest lead of the game when Taylor Tanita connected on a three-point basket to put the Tritons up by six, 24-18, with 5:42 left.
With 2:42 left in the first stanza and the Tritons leading by two, 28-26, Seattle Pacific's Aubree Callen hit a jumper to extinguish the short-lived lead and ignite an 11-4 Falcon run to end the period. UCSD trailed SPU at halftime, 37-32.
The Tritons came out of the gates strong in the second half as they were able to tie up the score, 39-39, less than three minutes into the period on a Miranda Seto layup. The Falcons would answer back and nab the biggest lead of the game by either team, 51-44, with 8:54 left in the contest.
At the 2:37 mark, Farrah Shokoor made a layup to tie the score yet again at 60-60. However, on the very next possession, Seattle Pacific's Suzanna Ohlsen scored a mid-range basket to put her team up for good.
UCSD was led by Seto's 17 points. Shokoor got her first double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds. No other Triton scored in double digits. The Tritons went 39.3 percent (22-56) from the floor and 15.8 percent (3-19) from behind the arc.
Seattle Pacific was paced by Callen who had 22 points. Ohlsen and Maddey Pflaumer added 15 points each.
UCSD will play host and 21st-ranked Western Washington Saturday. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at Carver Gym.
