WHO'S BACK, WHO'S NOT SNAPSHOT
The Tritons bring back three starters from last year's team that finished 16-11 overall and 13-9 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play including First Team All-CCAA honoree Miranda Seto. Seto, now a senior, led the team last year in points, averaging 14.2 per game, and steals with a total of 45. Joining her in the backcourt is senior Stephanie Yano, the team's assist leader last season who averaged 3.2 assists per game. Senior forward McKennan Bertsch returns to the team after leading the team with a .640 field goal percentage. Also back this year are senior center Dana Webster and sophomore guard Haley Anderson. Webster averaged 4.7 points and 3.3 rebounds per game in 27 games in 2013-14. Anderson, who will start the exhibition game at Stanford, came off the bench last year and averaged 3.9 points and 2.1 rebounds per game last season. UCSD lost four seniors to graduation, including two starters in Erin Dautremont and Megan Perry. Dautremont was a two-time All-CCAA honoree and was the team's leading rebounder. Perry led the team in minutes played averaging 35.7 minutes per game and averaged 10.8 points and 2.5 assists per game. The other departed four-year Tritons are guards Rachel Marty and Kim Manlangit.

NEWCOMERS
Among the six new Tritons, three are true freshmen: Paige Song, Gigi Olelewe and Abriana Conklin. Beth Mounier is a sophomore transfer from Division I Weber State. Jamie Katuna is a junior transfer from the University of San Francisco. Farrah Shokoor is a junior transfer from CCAA rival San Francisco State. Shokoor is a native of San Diego and prepped at Patrick Henry High School.

HEAD COACH HEIDI VANDERVEER
Heidi VanDerveer is heading into her third campaign as the head coach of the UCSD women's basketball team with a 38-22 overall record. Last year, VanDerveer led UCSD to a 16-11 overall record and placed fifth in the CCAA with a 13-9 conference mark. In her first year with the team, UCSD finished with a 22-11 record overall and placed second in the conference with a 17-5 mark. The Tritons won their first-ever league tournament title and qualified for the NCAA Division II postseason for the eighth time since 2000-01. Prior to coming to La Jolla, VanDerveer spent four seasons at Division III Occidental, where she compiled an impressive 83-26 record and led the Tigers to four straight Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles. VanDerveer has also spent time as the head coach at Eastern Washington and San Francisco. She began her coaching career under Pat Summitt at Tennessee and spent 12 years working in the WNBA. In addition to her collegiate and professional experience, VanDerveer worked with USA Basketball as a scout for the 2006 World Championship team and the 2008 World Qualifying Tournament. She also served as a scout for the 2008 Olympic Team that won a gold medal in Beijing. VanDerveer graduated from the College of Charleston with a Bachelor's Degree in political science in 1986 and went on to earn her Master's in physical education and sports psychology from the University of Tennessee in 1988. She was a four-year letterwinner on the basketball team at Charleston and served as a team captain as a junior and a senior.

STANFORD RECAP
Senior guard Miranda Seto led all scorers with 24 points as UCSD fell to Stanford, 74-51, in an exhibition on Saturday at Maples Pavilion. It marked the first time that the Tritons' Heidi VanDerveer squared off against her hall-of-fame sister Tara VanDerveer as head coaches.

The Cardinal used their size inside to their advantage and outscored the Tritons 22-12 in the paint. Farrah Shokoor contributed six points and seven rebounds, and fellow transfer Beth Mounier added nine points and three boards. Redshirt freshman Taylor Tanita finished with five points and a game-high five assists.
