UCSD Sweeps CPP With MacBride's Goal In Final Minute

POMONA, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's soccer team earned its first sweep of the 2012 season, defeating league opponent Cal Poly Pomona 1-0 Friday afternoon on the road.

The victory at Kellogg field lifted UCSD to a 4-2-1 overall record and a 3-1-1 mark in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The Broncos dropped to 2-3-1 and 0-3-1.

The Tritons' goal came in the final minute of regulation after the Broncos' defense turned the ball over within scoring distance. Senior forward Scott MacBride was there to sweep up the ball and lift it over Cal Poly Pomona keeper Kris Minton. The goal was MacBride's first on the year, giving the Tritons their second victory over the Broncos this season.

UC San Diego not only outshot CPP 12-8, but shot more accurately, putting eight bids on frame to the Broncos' two. Triton Andisheh Bagheri led both squads with four shots and was followed by Evan Walker and Sam Ball with three apiece.

UCSD goalkeeper Josh Cohen was able to get a hand on each of the Broncos' shots on goal, bringing his season save total to 29 over seven games.

UCSD continues CCAA play Sunday as it travels to San Francisco State for an 11:30 a.m. tilt. Follow the match online via live stats here.
