Elliott Earns 100th Victory at UCSD with 82-65 Triumph Over Hawaii Pacific

HILO, Hawaii - Daisy Feder scored 15 points and Chelsea Carlisle put in 13 to lead the 13th-ranked UC San Diego women's basketball team to a comfortable 82-65 victory over Hawaii Pacific in the opening game of the Hawaii Hilo Vulcan Classic on Friday evening at the UHH Gymnasium.

The Tritons hit six of their first eight shots to start the game and never looked back, cruising to their third consecutive win to open the season. UCSD, which has won its first three games by an average of 19 points, will look to keep rolling against host Hawaii Hilo on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. PST.

Friday's game marked Charity Elliott's 100th victory as head coach of the Tritons. Now in her fifth season with the program, Elliott has an overall record 100-31 (.763) and currently ranks second on UCSD's all-time wins list behind only Judy Malone, who won 411 games from 1976-2005.

"Every one of those 100 wins are all about the players that I've been honored and blessed to coach here at UCSD," Elliott said of her milestone victory. "They have made us a very successful program over the last several years as well as making every day an enjoyable one for me. That's what its all about."

Feder finished 4-of-12 from the field, including 3-of-8 from the three-point line to lead for players in double figures for the Tritons. She scored 10 of her points in the first half as UCSD jumped out to an early lead it would not relinquish.

Carlisle, who was named the CCAA/GNAC Shootout MVP after a pair of huge performances last weekend, converted 5-of-11 shots from the floor and also dished out a game-high six assists in 31 minutes. Emily Osga finished with 12 points, nine rebounds and three assists, while Erin Dautremont tallied 12 points and eight boards.

The Tritons shot 42.4% (28-66) for the game, including a blistering 52% (14-27) in the first half. UCSD hit 5-of-12 three-pointers in the opening period, 42%.

Skye Savini scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Hawaii Pacific (2-2), which shot just 38% (25-66) from the field. Mana Hopkins recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards.

The Tritons raced out to a quick 10-4 lead as Feder and Osga combined to hit three consecutive triples in the game's first two minutes. Five straight points from Nicole Anderson-Jew gave UCSD a 23-8 advantage with 12 and a half minutes left in the first half, but HPU would fight back, cutting the deficit to just seven at 27-20 with 8:58 left.

Osga answered with another three and then drained a jumper and Carlisle followed with a pair of free throws as UCSD pushed its lead back to 15 at 35-20. The Tritons led 41-24 following a pair of free throws from Lauren Freidenberg, before taking a 43-28 lead into the locker room at halftime.

HPU would pull within nine on three separate occasions in the second half, but each time UCSD was able to respond. The Sea Warriors cut the deficit to 63-54 with eight and a half minutes remaining, but Carlisle and Friedenberg hit back-to-back jumpers and Feder sank two foul shots to end the threat.

UCSD continued to pour it on down the stretch, leading by as many as 20 at 78-58 with 3:54 left to play.

"We got off to a great start, but Hawaii Pacific was very scrappy and kept coming back at us," Elliott added. "Fortunately we were able to answer and we got the win."

Saturday's contest will mark the first ever meeting between UCSD and Hawaii Hilo.
