LA JOLLA, Calif. - Reyana Colson scored a game-high 25 points, including 15 in the second half to lead the Broncos back from nine down, as Cal Poly Pomona defeated UC San Diego, 82-75, in a back-and-forth battle on Saturday evening at RIMAC Arena.

The Tritons held a 55-46 lead with 13:41 remaining in the second half, but the Broncos answered with a crushing 28-9 run over the next nine and a half minutes to send UCSD to its second consecutive loss.

Cal Poly Pomona improves to 13-2 overall and 10-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, keeping pace first place Cal State Monterey Bay. The Broncos have won their previous six games.

UCSD, which saw a six-game winning streak of its own come to an end with a 60-58 setback against Cal State San Bernardino on Thursday, falls to 10-9 overall and 8-4 in the CCAA. The Tritons have not lost two straight since dropping their first five to open the season.

Colson, the CCAA's scoring leader, was just 6-of-21 from the field, but sank 3-of-7 three-point shots and got to the free throw line 13 times, converting 10. She also finished with four rebounds and dished out a game-high eight assists. Sarah Semenero added 14 points for the Broncos, while La'kenya Simon West put in 13 and Charlene Popoff chipped in with 10.

Lauren Freidenberg was dominant in the post for UCSD, finishing with 20 points and 10 boards for her third double-double of the season. She was 9-of-17 from the floor, scoring in double figures for the third time in five games.

Chelsea Carlisle tallied 14 points, four rebounds and five assists for the Tritons, while Megan Perry and Erin Dautremont scored 10 points apiece.

UCSD narrowly out-shot CPP 44% to 43% for the game, but the Broncos were plus-four at the free throw line and made three more threes than the Tritons. Pomona finished 10-of-18 from the arc, 56%. Both teams corralled 28 rebounds.

Leading by just one a halftime, the Tritons opened the second half with a 12-4 run to lead by nine at 53-44 with just over 15 minutes remaining. Emily Osga drained a three and Carlisle scored in transition to cap off the spurt.

The Broncos would respond though, cutting the deficit to just four at 57-53 following a triple by Rosslyn Beard with 11:34 left. Dautremont hit two free throws to put UCSD back in front by seven (64-57) two minutes later, but the Tritons went ice cold at that point and were held scoreless over the next five minutes.

Pomona capitalized on UCSD's freeze, scoring 17 straight points to turn a seven-point deficit into a 74-64 lead with 5:13 remaining.

The Tritons were able to trim the deficit to just four at 79-75 with 46 seconds left, but it was too little too, too late as UCSD came up empty on its final three trips and CPP hit three free throws to seal the win.

UCSD trailed by as many as eight early in the first half, but rallied back to take a 41-32 lead on a three-point play by Erin Grady with just over two minutes remaining in the period. Pomona scored the final eight points of the half, however, with Colson draining a triple to bring the Broncos to within a point at 41-40 heading into the locker room.

The Tritons shot 47% over the first 20 minutes, while the Broncos connected on 7-of-11 first half threes to stay close. When it was all said and done, the game featured seven lead changes and four ties.

UCSD will now try to put an end to its two-game funk on the road, as the Tritons will travel to Sonoma State and Humboldt State next week.
