SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The No. 15 UC San Diego women's tennis team cruised to a 7-2 road victory against Cal State San Bernardino on Monday afternoon. With the win, the Tritons improve to 12-5 overall and 8-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
After a delayed start, UCSD ended up topping the Coyotes in two of the three doubles contests and five of the six singles matches. Tritons' head coach Liz LaPlante mixed the lineup Monday, inserting Krystal Mizuguchi and Katie Barth into the No. 5 and No. 6 singles positions. Both players collected victories and Barth's win was the first singles win of her UCSD career.
At the top spots in the ladder, regular starters Taskeen Bains, Anita Athavale and Samantha Yeung all picked up wins.
Yeung holds the best overall record on the Tritons' squad at 12-5, including an 8-1 mark within the CCAA.
The UCSD team returns to action on Thursday with a road contest against Point Loma Nazerene. The marquee matchup of the week is set for Saturday, with a tough No. 19 Cal State Stanislaus squad visiting La Jolla for an 11 a.m. meeting with the Tritons.
