HAYWARD, Calif. -The 17th-ranked UC San Diego women's water polo team spotted Cal State East Bay a first quarter lead, but the Tritons took control by scoring 11 times in the second and third quarters en route to an 18-12 win over Cal State East Bay in Hayward on Friday evening. Kirsten Bates and Stephanie Heinrich scored four goals apiece to pace UCSD. The Tritons, who improved to 14-14, won their seventh consecutive game and 12th win in their last 14 games. UCSD heads to the Santa Clara Invitational this weekend, facing No. 6 San Jose State and Sonoma State on Saturday.

In addition to Heinrich and Bates with four goals apiece, Jessica Tran scored three times while T.C. Coles and Hanalei Crowell scored two goals each. Felicia Orozco, Kim McComas and Audra Bloom also scored.

Markayla Quane recorded eight saves in goal for UCSD.

The Tritons trailed 5-3 after the first quarter. UCSD quickly made up ground and would come back to tie the game at 6-6 with 3:33 remaining in the first half on a Heinrich goal. UCSD took its first lead of the game after back-to-back goals by Tran and McComas. It was McComas' goal with 1:05 remaining that put UCSD up 8-7 at halftime.

In the third quarter, UCSD dominated by outscoring CSUEB 6-2 as Bates and Coles combined to score five of UCSD's goals in the quarter. The Tritons led 14-9 through three.

UCSD put the game away quickly in the fourth as Bates and Crowell scored two goals to put UCSD up 16-9. UCSD would close out the win at 18-12.

The 18 goals is UCSD's high mark of the season. The previous high of 15 was set in a 15-6 win over Sonoma State at the Roadrunner Invitational.
