LA JOLLA, Calif. – Daisy Feder scored a career-high 19 points and
Chelsea Carlisle finished with 17 as the eighth-ranked UC San Diego women's basketball team ran all over Cal State Dominguez Hills in an 83-57 victory on Thursday night at RIMAC Arena. The Tritons outscored the Toros 28-12 over the final 12 minutes of the first half and cruised to their fourth straight win.
UCSD turned in a balanced effort on both sides of the ball, shooting 50% from the field offensively, while holding CSUDH to just 38% on the other end. The Tritons reached the 80-point mark for the fifth time this season as 12 different players scored in the game.
UCSD's record now stands at 18-1 overall and 13-1 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play entering Saturday's matchup with Cal State L.A. The Tritons continued their dominance at home this season, recording their 11th consecutive victory against no losses.
"Our bench was tremendous tonight," head coach
Charity Elliott said. "Daisy came in and had a big performance and everyone really contributed. When our bench plays like it did tonight, it takes us to another level and that's really exciting."
UCSD's reserves scored a season-high 42 points in the win and contributed six of the team's eight threes, which was also a high mark for the year. The Tritons' speed was an issue for the Toros all night, as UCSD scored 14 fast break points, while holding a 32-18 advantage in the paint.
Feder hit 5-of-7 shots from the field and drained four threes in the best offensive performance of her young career. She easily surpassed her previous high of 14 that came in UCSD's win over Biola on December 18.
Carlisle added four rebounds and three assists to go with her 17 points, while
Annette Ilg scored 14 and tallied two boards, two assists, and three steals.
The Toros (7-13, 6-9 CCAA) held an 11-10 lead six minutes into the game, but
Leilani Martin and Feder combined to score the next nine points for the Tritons, giving UCSD a 19-13 advantage. Carlisle's jumper with 7:38 remaining made it 25-15 and her three-pointer with 1:19 left gave the Tritons a 19-point cushion at 42-23.
Leading 42-25 at the half, UCSD opened the second period on a crushing 22-7 run to take an insurmountable 64-32 advantage and put the game away.
MacKenzie Mathias scored 15 points off the bench to lead the Toros, while Whitney Gantt and Neka Mixon each finished with 13.
The Tritons will now take on the Golden Eagles to conclude their four-game homestand on Saturday. The contest will serve as UCSD's "Think Pink" game, where the Tritons will show their support for the fight against breast cancer. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m.
