LOS ANGELES - The UC San Diego men's soccer team picked up an impressive 1-0 road win Sunday at Cal State L.A. Despite playing shorthanded in the final 28 minutes, UCSD held on for the one-goal victory. The Tritons are now 4-0-2 in their past six matches.

In the 63rd minute, sophomore Adam Zernik sent a perfectly-placed free kick inside the far post to give UCSD a 1-0 lead. The goal stood and UCSD improves to an even 4-4-4 overall and 4-3-3 within the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The Golden Eagles, ranked No. 1 nationally earlier in the season, fall to 7-4 overall and 6-4 in league play.

Zernik's score marked the first of his career and the victory served as the first UCSD road win over CSULA since Oct. 12, 2007. The Golden Eagles and Tritons are now next to each other in the CCAA South Division, at third and fourth respectively.

In the second half of Sunday's match, UCSD head coach Jon Pascale sent Zernik into the action at the 60:18 mark. Less than three minutes later, at 62:29, Zernik struck from the tough angle and put the Tritons ahead.

Moments before the goal, Tritons' junior Kasra Sarabakhsh earned his second yellow and a subsequent red at the 61:28 mark. The rest of the match played out as 11 players versus 10.

The two teams ended the game with 13 shots apiece, with UCSD keeper Jesse Brennan collecting five saves. Sarabakhsh led the Tritons in shots with five.

The UCSD offense landed nine shots on frame as the visitors kept Golden Eagles' netminder Thaddeus Caraway busy. The squads combined for just five corner kicks, with UCSD attempting three and CSULA earning two.

The Tritons will return to action on Friday when they host 14th-ranked Chico State at 7 p.m.
