LONG BEACH, Calif. - The 12th-ranked UC San Diego men's volleyball team was swept by No. 8 Long Beach State 30-22, 30-22, 30-21 on Friday night at the Walter Pyramid. UCSD was held to a .045 hitting percentage while Long Beach State hit at a .387 clip. UCSD was paced by Cyrus Kiani with six kills, while Jason Spangler and Frank Fritsch added five kills each. With the loss, UCSD drops to 3-6, 1-4 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, while Long Beach State improves to 4-4, 3-2 MPSF.

UCSD was outblocked 20.0 - 3.0 on the night as LBSU's Antwain Aguillard had 11 blocks and eight kills.

In the first set, LBSU opened up a 15-11 lead after a block assist, the first four point lead of the match. UCSD would pull within three points but the 49ers would stretch the lead to 21-15 after another block, forcing the Tritons to use their second timeout. LBSU built a nine point lead and cruised to the 30-22 win.

The match did not get any easier for the Tritons as UCSD was held to a .000 hitting percentage in sets two and three.

Spangler and Fritsch continue to work their way toward the UCSD career kills title. The top mark is held by Jim Waller who had 1,301 kills and the No. 2 mark is Tom Black's 1,268 kills. Spangler is now up to 1,229 kills while Fritsch is right behind at 1,123.

The last time UCSD and LBSU faced each other was on April 17 in RIMAC Arena. The Tritons took the first set 30-28, but LBSU rebounded to win the final three sets 30-26, 31-29, 30-28.

UCSD is back in action next week when it hosts Long Beach State in a rematch on Friday, February 5. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. in RIMAC Arena.
