POMONA, Calif. ? The 10th-ranked UC San Diego women's tennis team completed their regular season on Saturday with a 9-0 win over Cal Poly Pomona.  The victory marks the 59th straight over a CCAA opponent and completes the sixth straight undefeated conference schedule for the Tritons.  UCSD finishes the regular season with an overall record of 15-5, 9-0 in CCAA play.

Head coach Liz LaPlante's squad got things started by sweeping doubles action, as Ina Dan and Taskeen Bains from the top spot pulled off a tough 9-7 win and Tessa Tran and Valerie Tang at No. 2 won 8-6.  Anita Athavale and Katie Mulloy put away their doubles opponents with an 8-2 victory at No.3.

“Doubles was close, but we were able to pull it out,” said LaPlante, in her 30th season as head coach.

With Natalie Varnay out with the flu, every Triton moved up a spot on the ladder.  Roxy Pourmirzaie finished singles play first with the quickest win of the day, 6-2, 6-0, from No. 6.  Dan then clinched the match for UCSD at the No. 1 spot with a 6-3, 6-0 victory.  Bains and Tang were also straight set winners on the day, while Athavale and Tran each won in three sets, with Athavale rebounding for wins of 7-5 and 10-8 in the second and third sets after falling by an equally close 5-7 margin in the first.

The Tritons will next be in action on Saturday, May 9 as part of the NCAA West Regionals.
