BONSALL, Calif. ? The UC San Diego men's golf team kicked off its spring schedule on Monday, taking part in the Cal State San Marcos Invitational held at the San Luis Rey Downs Golf Course. The Tritons finished the first round tied with Concordia University (OR) for eighth place, recording a team total of 34-over par, 322. The tournament, which got under way on Monday despite poor conditions and some wild weather, will conclude with the final round on Tuesday. 
Holy Names University holds a comfortable nine-stoke lead after the first day, finishing with a team total of 9-over par, 297 on the 6,750-yard, par-72 course. Cal State San Bernardino sits in second place after the first round, posting an 18-over, 306, while Cal State East Bay is third at 25-over, 313.
Individually, San Diego State's Ryan Citarella leads the field after carding a 1-under, 72 in the first round, two strokes in front of HNU's Austin Fink. Holy Name's Tenzan Hashimoto and Robbie Bendorf are tied for third with identical rounds of 2-over, 74.  
Raj Samra leads the way for the Tritons with a 5-over, 77, which places him in a tie for 16th place overall after the first day. 
Keith Okasaki is tied for 21st place one stroke behind Samra with a 78, while 
Ryan Bailey and 
Billy Olsen carded rounds of 82 and 85, respectively. 
After wrapping up the CSUSM Invite on Tuesday, UCSD will have two weeks off before traveling to Austin, Texas for the St. Edwards Invitational February 23-24.
