SEASIDE, Calif. ? Led by first-career scores from two freshmen, the No. 3 UC San Diego women's soccer team rebounded from Friday night's loss at San Francisco State with a 2-1 victory Sunday on the road against Cal State Monterey Bay.

Freshmen Sara Bolton (Carlsbad, Calif.) and Sarah McTigue (Bellflower, Calif.) both scored in the second half as the Otters were topped by the Tritons, who improve to 4-1-1 overall and 1-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. CSUMB dropped to 0-5-1 overall and 0-2 in league play.

The two offenses started out slow in the first half, compiling just three shots each. The second half provided a stark contrast as all three scores came in the final 45 minutes, during which the UCSD squad fired 10 shots.

Bolton put the Tritons on the board in the 49th minute, off a direct kick from the right side. The first-year defender, who has been steady in the back while starting all six games for UCSD, earned her first career points with the blast.

In the 63rd minute, a shot by senior forward Natasha Belak-Berger (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) was initially stopped by CSUMB goalkeeper Graciela Holguin. A rebound kicked out though to McTigue, who promptly placed the ball into the back of the net to give the Tritons a 2-0 advantage.

The Otters rallied for a late score at the 75:42 mark but UCSD managed to hold on for the 2-1 victory.

The Tritons return to La Jolla to play their CCAA home opener on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. against Cal State Dominguez Hills. The Toros are 1-1 in league play after defeating CSUMB 3-0 on Friday and losing to SFSU Sunday by a score of 2-0.
