TURLOCK, Calif. ? Michelle Osier had 28 points and 13 rebounds as UC San Diego defeated Cal State Stanislaus, 67-57, Saturday night in the Warrior Arena. With the win UC San Diego improved to 16-6 overall and 8-4 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association after picking up a split on the Northern California road trip.
Cal State Stanislaus dropped its record to 5-13 and 3-9 in league play. Shristy Kumar had 21 points and three rebounds for the Warriors. Aleta Stamps chipped in nine points and grabbed seven rebounds to pace CSUS.
The Warriors had a commanding 33-21 halftime lead and even held a 13-point advantage when Christin Gowan hit a three-pointer with 1:29 left in the first half. Gowan, who had a career high 20 points Thursday night, finished with 11 points Saturday.
UC San Diego opened the second half on fire and used a 11-0 run to cut the Stanislaus lead to just one with five minutes to play in regulation. The Warriors maintained a small advantage until a couple of free throw 10 minutes into the second half gave UCSD the lead. The Tritons then used another 12-2 run to put the Warriors down 10, 54-44.
UCSD also got 11 points each from Meaghan Noud and Erin Noonan in the win.
First year head coach Charity Elliott and her squad will now return home for a four-game homestand over the next two weekends, wrapping up the Tritons' home slate during the regular season. Up first will be Humboldt State on Friday, February 8 at 5:30 p.m. in RIMAC Arena.
