UCSD?s Match With Cal State San Bernardino Ends In 0-0 Draw

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. ? The 16th-ranked UC San Diego women's soccer team posted a third consecutive shutout but failed to score on several chances and had to settle for a 0-0 draw with Cal State San Bernardino Friday afternoon at Coyote Premier Field.

UCSD, which would have clinched the California Collegiate Athletic Association South Division title with a victory, now stands at 13-2-3 overall and 9-2-2 in league with one regular season game remaining. With a five point lead over second place Cal State Dominguez Hills in the standings, the Tritons can still clinch the top spot in the south with a win or tie Sunday at Cal Poly Pomona. The Toros and Broncos are scheduled to square off Friday night at 7:00 p.m.

One of only two teams to defeat UCSD this season, CSUSB (9-5-5, 6-4-3 CCAA) was looking to add another upset over the Tritons to its resume to bolster its chances of securing a spot in next week's CCAA Championship Tournament in La Jolla. The Coyotes will face Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday.

UCSD's defense turned in another outstanding effort Friday, holding CSUSB scoreless on 15 shots, eight of which were on fram. The Tritons have not allowed a goal since the 75th minute of their victory over CSUDH on October 15 ? a span of over 335 minutes of play.

Senior goalkeeper Jessica McGovern recorded her fourth sixth shutout in the last seven matches, making eight saves for the Tritons. The Reseda, Calif. native leads the CCAA with a total of nine scoreless efforts this season.

UCSD's offense has stalled lately, however, scoring just once in the teams' previous three matches. The Tritons had scored 11 goals in five games prior to their current dry spell. UCSD finished with 11 shots Friday, including three in the second overtime period, but could not put one away. Senior Kelly Mayo had four shot to lead the way.

Head coach Brian McManus' squad was held without a goal for just the fourth time this season.

The Tritons' will wrap up the 2008 regular season Sunday against the Broncos, a team they defeated 2-0 earlier this season. Kickoff is slated for 4:00 p.m.
