LA JOLLA, Calif. - The 2nd-ranked UC San Diego women's soccer team picked up a convincing 3-0 shutout victory over visiting CSU Monterey Bay on Friday evening at Triton Soccer Field on the UCSD campus. With the victory the Tritons improve to 6-0-0 overall and 3-0-0 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play while dropping the Otters to 0-3-0 overall and 0-3-0 in league play.

UCSD out-shot the visiting Otters by a 23-1 margin in the contest, dominating time of possession and the pace of play all match long. The Tritons also held a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks, but it was CSUMB that had an advantage in one statistical category, posting seven saves on the game while UCSD did not have any.

Junior Kelly Mayo go the Tritons on the board early, scoring at the 1:56 mark of the first half off a pass from senior Alie Avina. Mayo's goal came from only eight yards out as she collected the cross, spun and found the back of the net without being contested.

UCSD's next tally came in the 41st minute when Lisa Bradley took a turnover from 16 yards out and slotted the ball past CSUMB netminder Stacey Senkle for the 2-0 advantage.

The Tritons put together a few scoring threats in the second half, but none found the net until the 81st minute when Rachel Lindenfeld headed home her second goal of the year off a brilliant crossing pass from fellow senior Chelsey Campbell.

Junior netminder Jessica McGovern picked up her third shutout of the year, making no saves while only facing one shot in the match.

Head coach Brian McManus' squad will return to action on Sunday, hosting San Francisco State at Triton Soccer Field. Kickoff is slated for 2:30 p.m.
