LA JOLLA, Calif. ? The 19th-ranked UC San Diego women's tennis team won its 36th-straight CCAA match with a convincing 7-2 victory on Friday afternoon at the Northview Tennis Courts on the UCSD campus. The match was played as a makeup for the March 3rd match that was postponed in San Bernardino due to high winds and blowing sand.
With the win the Tritons improve to 9-7 overall and 6-0 in league play while dropping the Coyotes to 3-9 overall and 1-6 in conference action. UCSD 36-match win streak in league play dates back to April 19, 2003.
The Tritons won all three doubles matches to take an early 3-0 lead. The top two spots on the ladder were won by 8-1 margins while match No. 3 was won by an 8-3 score.
Ina Dan, Pooja Desai, Tessa Tran and Christy Knudsen all claimed singles victories in straight sets. Tran won her match without losing a single game in either set while Knudsen and Dan only lost one and two games, respectively, in their entire matches.
Both teams will return to the court on Saturday, playing the second match of their season series. First serve is slated for 11 a.m.
