LA JOLLA, Calif. ? The 14th-ranked UC San Diego women's water polo team scored a season-high 20 goals and defeated Chapman 20-2 on Thursday afternoon at Canyonview Pool. Judy Emaus scored five goals and Sydney Gstettenbauer scored all four of her goals in the first half as the Tritons took a commanding 10-2 lead at the intermission. UCSD outscored the Panthers 10-0 in the second half. Other multiple goal scorers for UCSD included Natalie Hockett with three and Miho Umezawa and Audra Bloom with two apiece. The Tritons improve to 12-11, while the Panthers drop to 5-12.
In the first quarter, the Panthers scored first on Kaitlyn Calhoun's goal. UCSD then scored six unanswered goals in the quarter as Gstettenbauer, Hockett and Emaus scored twice apiece. Chapman's Jennifer Manship scored before the end of the quarter and UCSD led 6-2 after one.
In the second quarter, Gstettenbauer added two more, while Umezawa and Britta Nordstrom scored to give UCSD a 10-2 lead at the break.
UCSD's offense continued to execute in the third as Emaus scored twice and Umezawa, Lauren Woods, Hockett and Bloom all scored.
UCSD added four more goals in the fourth, closing out the win.
UCSD is back in action tomorrow night when it hosts No. 20 Cal State Northridge. The game is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m. on the UCSD campus.
