DAVIS, Calif. ? The 15th ranked UC San Diego women's water polo team split its first two games at the Davis Shootout on Saturday afternoon on the UC Davis campus. UCSD dropped its first match-up, a 5-4 decision to 17th-ranked Santa Clara. UCSD's Sydney Gstettenbauer tied the game at 4-4 with 3:43 left, but an SCU goal at the :08 mark gave the Broncos the win. The Tritons defeated Cal State Monterey Bay 12-10, using seven, second quarter goals to defeat the Otters in the second game of the afternoon. Miho Umezawa scored three times, while Judy Emaus and Sarah Bajorek scored twice each in the win.
In the 5-4 loss to Santa Clara, the Tritons led 3-2 after Bajorek's goal with 4:02 left in the third period. SCU came back to take the lead before Gstettenbauer's goal tied the game at 4-4. SCU then scored on its last possession, giving the Broncos their second, one goal win over UCSD this season.
In UCSD's 12-10 win over CSUMB, Umezawa scored three times, while Emaus and Bajorek scored twice. Natalie Hockett, Nicole Hermann, Kim Hockett and Lauren Woods also scored for UCSD.
UCSD is back in action tomorrow for the final day of the Davis shootout. UCSD takes on UC Davis and Cal State San Bernardino.
