LA JOLLA, Calif. ? The UC San Diego women's tennis team dropped its season opener by a narrow 5-4 margin on Saturday afternoon at the Northview Tennis Courts on the UCSD campus. The Tritons fall to 0-1 on the season while the Cougars improve 1-0.

The Tritons took two of three doubles matches to lead early by a 2-1 margin. APU came back in the singles portion of the match and won the top four matches to claim the narrow victory.

Tessa Tran and Allison Legakis each picked up singles wins for the Tritons while Marsha Malinow teamed up with Ina Dan for a victory at the No. 1 doubles match. Legakis and newcomer Yekaterina Milvidskaia picked up the others doubles victory for UCSD at the No. 3 spot on the ladder.

Head coach Liz LaPlante leads her team back into action on Wednesday, February 7, hosting Fresno Pacific at 2 p.m. UCSD will then begin its CCAA title defense with a February 10 match at home against Cal State L.A. First serve is slated for 11 a.m. at the Northview Tennis Courts.
