BAKERSFIELD, Calif. ? UC San Diego looked every bit the defending conference campion, beating Cal State Bakersfield 9-0 at the Sally Ann Silva Courts in Bakersfield Saturday afternoon.
UCSD (4-3, 4-0 CCAA) opened the afternoon by sweeping all three doubles matches while losing just two games. The Tritons lost just one set in sweeping the six singles matches.
The Roadrunners got a big effort from junior Kati Lynott at No. 1 singles, who nearly pulled off a major upset. Lynott took the first set from Marsha Malinow, 6-4, before falling 6-3 in the second set and 10-7 in the super tiebreaker.
Tessa Tran picked up the biggest win for the Tritons Saturday, defeating Leslie Begley 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles. Pooja Desai also earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Jennifer Paet at No. 5.
UCSD returns to action next weekend, playing at Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday, March 3rd at 11 a.m.
