LA JOLLA, Calif. ? The 14th-ranked UC San Diego women's basketball team missed its first 15 shots and was held scoreless for the first 10 minutes of the contest and never recovered in the 69-58 loss on Friday night to Cal State Bakersfield. With the loss the Tritons have their 8-game winning streak snapped and fall to 18-4 overall and 14-3 in CCAA play while the Roadrunners claim their 10th-straight win and improve to 18-6 overall and 15-2 in league action.
The ?Runners, who are in their transition year to the NCAA Division I level, made eight of their first 12 shots and never looked back, holding a 33-17 lead at halftime and extending that margin to as many as 21 in the second stanza. CSUB takes over sole possession of first place in the CCAA; however the Roadrunners are not eligible for the league title or a spot in the NCAA Division II postseason tournament because of their move to D-I next year.
The loss for the Tritons is their third at home this season, giving them a 7-3 record in RIMAC Arena. Conversely, UCSD holds a perfect 10-0 record on the road and a 1-1 mark in neutral site contests. Additionally, all four of the Tritons' losses this season have come by double digits.
Florida Siaosi led four CSUB players in double figure scoring, pouring in 17 points to go along with her game-high 12 rebounds. Kelley Tarver added 15 points while Jessi Loring and Rhonda Johnson chipped in with 12 points apiece.
Hillary Hansen led the Tritons, scoring 20 points that included an 8-for-9 night from the charity stripe. Fellow senior Leora Juster added 17 points on a rough night of shooting, going 8-for-19 from the floor. Sophomore Michelle Osier chipped in with 11 points, six boards and four steals in the loss.
UCSD ended up shooting 22-for-60 (36.7%) from the floor after going a dismal 8-for-30 (26.7%) in the first half. CSUB shot 48.2% from the floor, making 27 of 56 shots on the night.
Head coach Janell Jones' squad returns to action on Saturday night, hosting Cal State L.A. at 5:30 p.m. in RIMAC Arena. The Tritons posted a 68-36 victory over the Golden Eagles earlier this season on the CSULA campus.
