LA JOLLA, Calif. - The 15th-ranked UC San Diego women's water polo team cruised past Chapman 14-3 on Wednesday afternoon in Canyonview Pool. UCSD jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter on two goals by Flynn LaRochelle and scores by Natalie Hockett and Michelle Perkins. Hockett finished the day with a game-high five goals. LaRochelle, Kirsten Frazer and Sarah Bajorek also scored multiple goals. UCSD improves to 15-13 this season while Chapman drops to 13-14.
Leading 5-0 at halftime, UCSD rolled in the third quarter as Bajorek netted a goal with 5:00 left as the Tritons led 6-0. Nicole Hermann scored at 4:10 and Frazer netted back-to-back goals as UCSD led 9-0 with 2:04 left in the third. The Panthers got on the board as Kristin Carter scored with 1:48 left. UCSD responded before the end of the period as Miho Umezawa scored as UCSD led 10-1 through three.
Hockett was tough to stop in the final quarter, scoring three times. Chapman's Jennifer Manship scored twice in the quarter. Bajorek's goal rounded out UCSD's scoring as the Tritons won 14-3.
UCSD is back in action on Saturday afternoon against UC Santa Barbara. The game will begin at 3:00 p.m. in Canyonview Pool.
