SAN DIEGO, Calif. ? The 13th-ranked UC San Diego men's tennis team battled Point Loma Nazarene on Tuesday and came away with a hard fought 5-4 victory on the PLNU campus. With the win the Tritons improve to 10-8 on the season.
The Tritons won two of the three doubles matches to take an early 2-1 lead heading into singles play. UCSD needed only three wins to clinch the match and did so with victories at the No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 spots on the ladder.
Brent Molden, Ramesh Thondapu and Steven Oechel each won their singles matches in straight sets. Erik Oijala and Kazumi Negishi went three sets in their losses.
UCSD returns to action on Wednesday with a 1 p.m. match at Cal Poly Pomona. The Tritons conclude the week with a 12 p.m. match at home on Saturday against Northern Arizona.
