BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The 14th-ranked UC San Diego women's water polo team won its third and fourth straight games by defeating Cal Baptist 7-5 and Cal State Bakersfield 10-5 on Saturday at the CSUB Tournament. The Tritons led CBU 5-1 and held on for the victory as Natalie Hockett and Judy Emaus scored twice apiece. In a physical game against the ?Runners, UCSD outscored CSUB 4-0 in the second quarter en route to a 7-2 halftime lead. UCSD would cruise to the 10-5 win as Nicole Hermann, Kirsten Frazer and Lauren Woods scored two times each.
UCSD led 4-1 at halftime against the Lancers and added another goal in the third quarter to lead 5-1. Cal Baptist would cut the deficit down to one goal in the fourth before the Tritons put the game away with a score with :18 left in the game to win 7-5. In addition to Hockett and Emaus' two goals apiece, Nicole Hermann, Britta Nordstrom and Kirsten Frazer also scored. Kaitlin Foe and Kim Hockett shared time in goal and saved 12 shots.
Against CSUB, Emaus, Flynn LaRochelle and Michelle Perkins scored in the first quarter for the Tritons' 3-2 lead. The second quarter was all UCSD as Hermann scored twice, with Frazer and Woods adding scores for the 7-2 halftime lead. Frazer added her second goal in the third quarter, while Woods and Bridgette Bugay scored in the fourth to close out the scoring 10-5 UCSD.
UCSD is back in action at the Santa Barbara Tournament on Feb. 25-26 in Santa Barbara, Calif. UCSD takes on No. 3 Stanford at 11:20 a.m. in the Tritons' first game of the tournament.
