LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The 10th-ranked UC San Diego women's tennis team snapped its two-game losing streak while opening up defense of its CCAA title with a convincing 9-0 sweep of Cal State L.A. on Saturday evening on the CSULA campus.
The Tritons won all six of the singles matches in straight sets with no Golden Eagle player winning more than three games in any given set. Marsha Malinow cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win at the top spot on the ladder while Marissa Hilker had an equally easy 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2.
In doubles play, UCSD won all three matches fairly easily. The closest match came at the No. 2 spot where Katie McKee and Kristin Bronowicki posted an 8-4 win over Isis Jackson and Jennifer Avila.
The Tritons, who captured the 2004 and 2005 CCAA Championships, improved to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in league play. They return to action next Saturday, playing at Cal State Bakersfield. UCSD will then travel to Cal State San Bernardino on Monday, February 20.
