SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. ? The 7th-ranked UC San Diego women's soccer team ran its unbeaten streak to seven straight with a convincing 5-0 victory over Cal State San Bernardino on Sunday afternoon. The Tritons have a 5-0-2 record in their last seven matches, a streak that dates back to September 22.
With the win, UCSD improves to 12-1-2 overall and 9-1-2 in league action while the Coyotes fall to 1-13-1 overall and 0-11-1 in league action.
Ali Lai gave the Tritons the only score they really needed in the 9th minute with her sixth goal of the season off a corner kick by Heather Sugg.
After a 1-0 first half, the Tritons went to work early in the second half with Kelly Cochran scoring the first of her two goals just 1:21 into the final period. Six minutes later Laura Borenstein scored her first goal of the season. Veteran Megan Dickey added the final goal in the 83rd minute.
The Coyotes, limited to just two shots on goal in the first half, finished with nine, but Triton goalkeepers Jessica McGovern and Mia Shirley were only challenged one time each, collecting a pair of shots off the toe of Coyotes defender Amy Coffman.
It was the seventh time this season the Coyotes have been shut out. They have been outscored 43-13 in 15 matches.
Head coach Brian McManus and his team returns home for their final two regular season home matches next weekend, hosting Cal State L.A. at 7 p.m. on Friday night before taking on Cal State Bakersfield at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
