Tritons Play to 1-1 Tie with No. 4 CSUDH

CARSON, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's soccer team played to a 1-1 double overtime tie with 4th-ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills Wednesday afternoon on the campus of CSUDH. UCSD senior Jon Krupansky's second half goal to tied the game and sent it to overtime where neither team was able to score the game-winner.

With the tie the Tritons go to 4-1-1 on the season and 1-1-1 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play while the Toros go to 5-1-1 overall and 1-1-1 in league action. The tie gives UCSD a 1-0-1 record on the year against top-5 ranked teams as the Tritons posted a 2-0 win on September 1 at then 2nd-ranked Seattle University.

CSUDH got on the board first at the 18:03 mark as Francisco Corona netted a penalty kick to give the Toros a 1-0 lead. Of the three goals given up this year by the UCSD defense, two have come by way of corner kicks, one in each of the last two contests.

Krupansky knotted the score at one apiece early in the second half, taking a Dustin Tannenhaus pass at the 46:30 mark and slotting the ball into the upper inside corner of the far post. The goal was his second of the season. Senior netminder Edward Ruhland had seven saves in the contest for the Tritons.

The Toros out-shot the Tritons by a 17-10 margin and had a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks. UCSD was called for five less fouls in the match as CSUDH was whistled for 12 infractions on the day.

Head coach Derek Armstrong and the Tritons return home to host Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday night. Game time is slated for 4:30 p.m. on Triton Soccer Field. These same two teams will tangle once more during the regular season, playing the nightcap of a doubleheader at Tritons Soccer Field on October 22.
