20th-Ranked Tritons Down Cal State Bakersfield 3-1

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The 20th-ranked UC San Diego women's soccer team defeated Cal State Bakersfield by a 3-1 score Saturday night at Triton Soccer Field. With the win the Tritons improve to 5-1-0 overall and 1-1-0 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play while the Roadrunners fall to 2-4-0 overall and 1-1-0 in league action.

Junior Megan Dickey put the Tritons ahead early, taking a Kathy Sepulveda pass from across the middle and sliding it home for her seventh goal of the season at the 7:10 mark.

UCSD added another goal at the 16:37 mark of the first half when Kelly Cochran netted her fifth goal of the season off a rebounded shot from Dickey. The Tritons took the 2-0 lead into halftime.

The Roadrunners scored early in the second half to draw within one as Moriah Neville took a Deena Plach corner kick and tallied her second goal of the season. Her goal came just over 90 seconds into the second half.

The momentum switched to CSUB's side after the goal but quickly turned just 11 minutes later as UCSD sophomore Ali Lai put home a rebounded shot for her third score of the season. She capitalized off a Cochran shot that hit the post and bounded back to her waiting feet.

UCSD returns to action on Wednesday, September 21, traveling to take on Cal State Dominguez Hills at 12:30 p.m. in Carson, Calif. Following that match the Tritons return home for a 7:00 p.m. match on Saturday, September 24 against Cal Poly Pomona.
