LA JOLLA, Calif. –
Shay Whitcomb of the No. 3 UC San Diego Baseball team was named the California College Athletic Association Athlete of the Week on March 3.
This is the second time a UC San Diego player has earned the award this season with
Brandon Stewart receiving the accolades after opening weekend. The junior shortstop previously earned the recognition last season on March 19. That same week, he was named the NCBWA West Region Player of the Week.
Whitcomb's power hitting lead the Tritons to a series win over San Francisco State. He went 5-for-16 at the plate with four of his five hits going for home runs. He also recorded seven RBIs over the weekend. Whitcomb now is tenth in career home runs with 20.
The Tritons will be back in action March 6 when they start their series with crosstown foe CSU San Marcos. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
