MILLER BREAKS SCHOOL RECORD
With 19 stops against No. 4 Cal, junior goalie Courtney Miller broke the UCSD all-time saves record on Saturday at the UC Davis Invitational. Miller, who accumulated 729 blocks in her first two seasons, broke the 25-year-old mark of 852 set by head coach Denny Harper's wife Jefi Paulsen. The Honolulu native holds tops spot in the record book with 876 career saves. Miller is on pace to make 384 saves this season which would beat the school's single season record that she set in 2013.
NATIONAL RANKINGS
After a tough weekend, the Tritons dropped to the 16th spot in the latest Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) poll. UCSD began the season at No.13 and moved up to No.11 after a phenominal performance at the Triton Invitational.
WEEKEND RECAP
The Tritons got off to a strong start at the UC Davis Invitational as they opened up with a 15-8 win against Azusa Pacific behind junior Jolene Guiliana's six goals on Friday. In addition to Guiliana's six goals, Andie Nishimi, Lauren Finwall and Laurel Kistler recorded two apiece while Courtney Miller held the Cougars to just one goal in the first half. Despite dominating win in the UC Davis Invitational opener, the Tritons couldn't carry that momentum to their final two games of the tournament. No. 16 UC Davis upset the Tritons with a 10-7 win, and UCSD fell 12-5 in the final match against No. 4 Cal. The Tritons may not have gotten the results they wanted in day two, but they still had plenty to celebrate as Miller made six stops against UC Davis and 19 against Cal to break the school record for all-time saves, which was previously 852. The final day of the tournament also saw a hat trick from Guiliana against UC Davis and one from Kistler against Cal. UCSD then closed out the weekend by falling to No. 20 Pacific, 8-5, on Sunday at Chris Kjeldsen Pool Complex in Stockton.
