LA JOLLA, Calif. — The Big West Conference announced Tuesday its latest Track and Field Athletes of the Week, naming UC San Diego Tritons distance runner Sylvana Northrop as the Women's Track Athlete of the Week. The award is selected weekly by the conference's head coaches.
Northrop delivered a record-setting performance at the Bryan Clay Invitational, leading UC San Diego with a standout weekend. She broke two school records, clocking 4:20.07 in the 1500m and 15:45.18 in the 5000m. Both marks moved her to the top of the Big West standings this season.
Next up, the Tritons will next compete at the Desert Heat Classic in Tucson, Ariz. on May 2.
The Tritons have now won four Big West Athlete of the Week awards this season. On March 17, Allyson Abandonato was named Women's Track Athlete of the Week and Feyi Olukanni was named Women's Field Athlete of the Week. Miles Bennett was named Men's Field Athlete of the Week on March 31.
